Vince DaMarco always liked Cassie, the shy waitress who works at the restaurant that serves as a front for his mob boss uncle. Unfortunately, she witnesses a back alley hit, and while fleeing, she’s struck by a truck. Now she’s at the top of the hit list. Desperate to stop anyone who’d draw out Cassie’s death, Vince volunteers to take care of it.

Cassie Dalton has no recollection of her accident, but she’s told she’s lucky to be alive. A few years are missing from her memory, and the unsettling feeling that something isn’t right—along with the creepy sensation that she’s being watched—won’t go away. Vince shows up right when Cassie needs him most.

In a world of confusion, the rugged stranger is the one thing that makes sense. But little does she know, she’s found refuge in the arms of the very man who’s been sent to kill her.

Taking Care of the Target starts like any romance book. Cassie is working as a waitress to pay for college and the debts her father's illness left her. While waiting tables is not the best job, her boss makes up for the bad pay. Vince is the restaurant manager his uncle owns. But while that is the part of the family bussiness he loves, he also has to participate in the no so legal parts... His uncle is a mafia boss and won't let Vince off so easily.
These two like each other from afar, Vince knowing Cassie is too good for him, and Cassie thinking he's way too out of her league. But one night changes everything, Cassie watches someone being murder outside the restaurant and when she tries to run she gets hit by a truck. The accident gives amnesia, but the mafia needs to make sure she will stay quiet.
When Vince goes to take care of Cassie and realises she doesn't remember a thing he decides to make sure she stays safe from his family but the atraction between them is impossible to deny.
I loved this book!! It's something new from Cindi Madsen and she didn't dissapoint. I got caught up in Cassie's story from the first chapter and couldn't put the book down. There are twist and turns along the way that keep you at the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next.
Watching Cassie fall for Vince again after her accident was great. The slow build of their relaship was a nice contrast to the intensity of the mob being after Cassie and the police after the mob dinamic.
Cassie is a sweet and shy character, but she develops so well in the story. And Vince strugle is palpable while he balances between duty and loyalty to his family and his love for Cassie.
Taking Care of the Target is the perfect romantic suspence to curl up on the weekend, because you won't be able to put the book down.
