How far would you go for a second chance?

Eleven years after flunking out of college, Kate has finally hit rock-bottom. Losing her job and boyfriend in one drunken night, she’s determined to fix her life by going back to the moment when she let partying and sex take over. And do things right this time. At twenty-nine, she heads back to freshman year of college, with a catch.

Pretending she's nineteen with a new roommate and full class schedule is easy. When she meets her shy, sexy and seven-years-younger RA, Carter, following her self-imposed sobriety and celibacy rules is proving to be anything but.

A senior enduring years of regret, Carter is more than ready to graduate. He’s anxious to move on from the party his freshman year where he witnessed his frat brothers about to commit a sexual assault. Instead of doing the right thing and stepping in, he looked the other way and left. His guilt has made for a lonely four years.

When he meets the new freshman on his floor, spunky and confident Kate, he wonders if his time as an outcast has finally come to an end.

Kate and Carter’s growing friendship and undeniable attraction make it harder to hide the demons from their respective pasts. But when their secrets are finally revealed, will their chance at starting over together still be there?

Lisa Burstein has done a great job with this book.

Kate is a really likeable character facing not only the troubles of staying sober, she has to do so in college where alcohol is everywhere. Lost and with no idea where to go after losing her job, Kate decides the best thing would be finally getting her degree and staying sober but she doesn't want to be the old lady in freshman year! So the only thing to do is take advantage of her young looks (lucky lady) and pretend to be 19.
Her journey through college take 2 is very interesting. She meets people who tempt her to go back to her wild ways, a girl who is pretending as much as she is and who might be the only thing keeping her sane and Carter. Carter who wants to protect her and then just wants her.

Carter's chapters were a very good addition to the book, he's just so scared and ashamed for what happened. In many ways he's the one who can't let go of the past, the one who can't forgive himself and that is as much a problem as Kate's secret.

I think the story was easy to relate and believeable in many ways as well. The emotions and fears felt real and Lisa is great at keeping humor, sexual tension and drama balanced through all the book. While there isn't really a mistery aspect, because it switches POVs, you really want to know how it ends and how both of them overcome their demons.

I laughed a lot while reading this, I kept cheering on Kate in her journey. she made a few very bad choices in the way, and I felt like the friend who sees someone do a bad choice and can't do anything to stop them but that it will lesson later on.
And in the end,  my heart was one happy warm little place.
