Hopeless
Colleen Hoover

Would you rather know a truth that makes you feel hopeless, or keep believing the lies?

Beloved and bestselling author Colleen Hoover returns with the spellbinding story of two young people with devastating pasts who embark on a passionate, intriguing journey to discover the lessons of life, love, trust—and above all, the healing power that only truth can bring.

Sky, a senior in high school, meets Dean Holder, a guy with a promiscuous reputation that rivals her own. From their very first encounter, he terrifies and captivates her. Something about him sparks memories of her deeply troubled past, a time she’s tried so hard to bury. Though Sky is determined to stay far away from him, his unwavering pursuit and enigmatic smile break down her defenses and the intensity of the bond between them grows. But the mysterious Holder has been keeping secrets of his own, and once they are revealed, Sky is changed forever and her ability to trust may be a casualty of the truth.

Only by courageously facing the stark revelations can Sky and Holder hope to heal their emotional scars and find a way to live and love without boundaries. Hopeless is a novel that will leave you breathless, entranced, and remembering your own first love.

My Review:

I have to be honest, when I read the summary for this book, I thought it sounded good.  When it came to reading the book, I procrastinated.  I could not for the life of me start this book.  I started this book mid-day Sunday only because the review was due today, but I wish I had read it ages ago because I love it, more so than anything I've read of late.  I can't think of any books I've read lately that can compare to this, except possibly Beautiful Disaster, but even that is way different.

Sky is a very stubborn character, and suffers a lot of the awkward and embarrassing moments I'm sure we all have had.  I feel like her character is sometimes more a mystery than Holder because you don't get hints into stuff that's happened with her like you would Holder, you find out when the author wants you to.

Holder has a way with words, but some of speeches start off bad and make you want to shove your own foot in his mouth, but makes you swoon by the end of it.  There's reasons he says and does stuff and sometimes you find out immediately, or find out down the road.  So he's a very good character to rely on for foreshadowing.

Overall, I loved the book, and I'll need to reread it soon because I found out there's a book from Holder's POV coming out on July 9th, but I really wish it'd come out sooner.
